Rather than completely seclude ourselves from the world in which we live, LIFT students are deliberately exposed to certain media, learning to interact in an intelligent, Christian way. Twice a month, students gather for a "movie night" and view a movie that is chosen for the worldview represented or the message being sent. Through directed discussion, students learn how to analyze the mindset of the writers and determine what each movie says about the society of which it is a product. Students also see the importance of becoming more intentional in their viewing, learning how easy it is to become oblivious to the influences of the media even as one's own worldview is shaped by them.
We also take a few special trips during the semester to key cultural locations, such as New York City or the Baseball Hall of Fame in nearby Cooperstown, NY. These trips, when taken with the intention of observing and better understanding the culture they represent, are helpful in the development of well-rounded, better-equipped leaders for Christ.
