 The Lordship of Jesus Christ

  • Jesus Christ is Lord over all of life so there is no final dichotomy between sacred and secular.
  • Jesus Christ is Lord over creation so there is no final dichotomy between spiritual and physical.
  • God’s creation is fallen so there is no realm or sphere left untainted by human sin.
  • God’s redemption in Christ goes as deep as sin so there is no realm or sphere to which the gospel is irrelevant.

  Cultural Engagement

  • Thoughtful and intelligent engagement with culture is an important corollary to the Lordship of Christ.
  • The proclamation of the gospel includes both words and deeds, though not always at the same time.
  • Christians should appreciate and promote artistic excellence wherever it is found.

  The Biblical Narrative

  • Stories are a real and vital way that human beings know the world and should not be relegated to a supposedly less trustworthy “subjective” way of knowing.
  • The story of the Triune God must not be limited to a “religious” or “personal” sphere but is rather the ultimate basis for all reality and as such has relevant implications in every sphere of life, including politics, business, and the home.
  • It is vital that Christians recognize the supremacy of Christ and therefore seek to submit themselves and all of life into His story rather than vice versa.

Wilderness Discipleship

  • The wilderness provides an effective environment for teaching and learning.
  • Challenging wilderness experiences are an excellent means of character growth.

Community

  • The Triune God is in His essence Love-in-Relationship; we therefore believe that loving and honest relationships are essential to growth as a Christian leader.
  • Providing a safe yet challenging environment in which deep, lasting, loving relationships can flourish is vital to leadership development.

Character

  • Jesus Christ humbled Himself by taking on the form of a servant; we therefore believe that humility and service are essential for Christian leadership.
  • Jesus Christ is the Truth; we therefore believe that integrity and trustworthiness are essential for Christian leadership.
  • Hands-on service experiences are vital to a leader’s growth.

Calling

  • We believe that God gives unique gifts and talents to His children.
  • Discovery of one’s gifts and callings is an essential and exciting aspect of leadership development.
  • The more convinced one is of his or her calling and purpose, the more fulfilled a person will be.
